We have recently entered the age of knowledge, often phrases
like knowledge is power and content is king will hit your ears more often when
discussing business on the net. Events that have continued to unfold in the
short course of e-commerce and e-business history have demonstrated and
continue to demonstrate that successful e-business are those that recognize the
needs of their target audiences and match those needs with relevant content..
The term e-commerce and e-business are often confused with
one another though they may be related they are different-commerce involves
exchanges among customers, business partners and the vendor. E.g. a supplier
interacts with a manufacturer, customers interact with sales representatives
and shipment providers interact with distributors.
E-business is composed of the same elements but also include
operation that are handled within the business itself e.g.
·
Production
·
Development
·
Corporate infrastructure
·
Product management.
These two; e-commerce and e-business have increased the
speed at which business transactions are being carried out. Also the ease
involved in carrying business transactions built on these two models seems to
be going through with a lot of ease. As a result of these two, ease and
increased speed competition has become intense.
What does this mean to businesses? It is the high time that
businesses must adjust constantly to new technologies, integrate newer and
faster systems and meet the needs of the people around there targeted market
segments. Competing entities must therefore must therefore realize that
customers do not have to go far to buy from next available vendor as in these
models they are just a click away from them.
